Visit the Alley of the Giants

In the forests of the Montagne Bourbonnaise, in the south-east of the Allier department, in Saint Nicolas des Biefs, an alley of winding beech trees over four centuries old is worth a detour.

Their intertwined shape is due to an old technique of horizontal weaving of branches, plessage, used to create impassable hedges.

The trunks of the beeches have taken on fantastic shapes, calling this remarkable natural site the “Chemin des Sorcières”.
